Hello MN wing pilots,

We are well into the winter doldrums! The flying weather has been
challenging at best, as is usual this time of year. At the bottom of this
email I have included an invitation from The FAA Safety team to join in on
some seminars during the winter months to stay sharp, so we are ready to go
when the nice spring weather arrives.
I have finished reviewing all the MN wing pilot records. Of the 189 pilot
records that I reviewed (both senior and cadet pilots) I found 92 pilots
that had errors in their operations qualifications. There has been a good
response to my emails and we are now down to less than 30 errors to be
fixed. Everyone at wing appreciates your dedication to correcting these
errors in a timely manner. If you received an email from me and have
not yet corrected the error(s) in your ops quals, please try and get it
done soon.
In the NHQ newsletter that is attached to this email there are several good
articles. The article on the new UL94 and UL100 aviation fuels is
interesting and a glimpse into what the future of aviation fuels may
become. I just want to emphasize that even though you may start seeing
these new fuels at some of the airports we operate at, NONE OF THE MN WING
CAP AIRPLANES ARE CURRENTLY APPROVED TO USE THESE NEW FUELS. The only fuel
we should be using is the old standard 100LL , blue fuel.
If you have flown one of our CAP airplanes with the new AIF book in it, you
may have also seen the new flight time log sheet that is a revised form.
The major difference to this sheet is there are now blocks in it to record
the tire pressure of each of the tires. This should be checked and recorded
before the first flight each day.
One last item, for those of you that are check pilots, we will be planning
our annual check pilot clinic on Saturday April 30 from 9 am to 4 pm at the
SGS wing hanger. More information to follow
