MN Wing Pilots, I am writing to you today as I want to clear up what has
been a common misunderstanding of the rules regarding mission numbers and
priority given to them.
I recently had a conversation with a pilot who wanted to take an airplane
from another crew based on his mission number being higher priority. I
originally agreed as I had been told that many times in the past. After
further review and investigation, I found the document that is attached to
this email. Please read it. This document will be on our intranet site
for all to see and share. It states that there is NO priority given based
on number. It makes a lot of sense and makes me wonder how we ever got to
recognizing the number means priority myth in the first place. Think
about it, a person wanting to fly an A12 mission would have priority and can
take a previously scheduled plane away from someone doing oflights? Makes
no sense. Or that a brand new member wanting to fly the onboarding A0
mission has priority over all? Not logical. Our SUI team plans their
flights months in advance and needs to coordinate with many people to get
their work done. Does it make any sense for their flight, planned months in
advance to be bumped by an O Flight? I hope you can all see that the
numbers cannot denote priority and will continue to work together when
scheduling planes to avoid any conflicts. Do not schedule over other
flights thinking you have priority. If you must use a specific plane that
is previously scheduled, please work it out with the other pilot or find a
different one. Please read the attached document
Thanks
