Hello MN wing pilots,
I hope everyone has enjoyed a happy thanksgiving holiday weekend.
A couple of items to point out this month.
First is the NHQ proficiency flight mission. This mission ends at the end
of December, so we have about a month to take advantage of this funded
flying. To be eligible for the 1.5 hours of flying you must first complete
the preflight briefing which can be found at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_Ff8Y66QsI
It's about an hour review of basic flight maneuvers. Once you complete this
just grab an instructor and go practice the basic flight maneuvers. This is
flown as an A12 mission with a profile 7. That way NHQ can track how many
flights are being completed.
The second funded flying option that is currently open is the winter
operations flying mission. If you have attended a winter operations
briefing you are eligible to go fly 1.0 hours to get used to flying in
winter conditions again.
We need to collectively make an effort to increase our flying this year. We
were down over 775 hours of flight time in 2022 vs 2021. We lost two planes
to transfers this last year and N9799E is scheduled to be retired shortly,
so we need to show NHQ that we can keep airplanes busy or we won't be a
candidate for new or replacement airplanes. This will make scheduling
airplanes to fly even more difficult.
For those of you that don't normally operate out of tower controlled
fields, a good FAA wings webinar is coming up for you to be able to learn
more about tower operations from the ATC people at the flying cloud tower.
