Hello and Happy New Year MN wing pilots,

Hope your new year is off to a good start.

The winter months in Minnesota are challenging times to fly. Weather and
airport conditions leave us grounded for many days during these months.
That being said, when you do see a good weather day, take advantage of the
clear skies and great performance from the airplanes and keep your
proficiency up to date. We want to keep our airplanes running as much as
possible. Long sits in the wintertime do not help out with the well being
of our airplanes!

One item to remember when going out to fly in the winter is what the snow
conditions are around your hanger, and if you are planning to go to another
squadron's hanger to swap planes, what the conditions of the snow are there
as well. Remember that even if the airport has plowed the ramps and
taxiways, there may be snow to be moved from in front of hangar doors
before airplanes can be moved in and out of the hangar. A call to a
destination squadron operations officer can help determine the conditions
at a neighboring squadron's hangar, and could help in getting snow removed
to be able to access the hangar.

December kind of slipped by without my getting a newsletter out. The
holidays always make the time go by too quickly. I am including links to
the  December and January editions of the NHQ stan/eval newsletters for
your reading.
