To All Pilots:

In the past month we've encountered 2 airplanes with a cracked fuel tank.
The crack is around the neck of the tank. The only good news about this is
that we know why this is happening. It is caused when refueling and the
nozzle is placed into the tank without being supported in an upright
position by the person refueling. The angle of the nozzle and the weight of
the nozzle and hose if not supported causes the neck to be stressed.

#1 This is how the leak is first detected. #2 This is what the tank looks
like when taken out of the airplane. Crack circled. #3 This is after the
crack is repaired. #4 This is an improper method of fueling. #5 This is a
preferred method of fueling.

The costs to remove, repair and reinstall is not an inexpensive process.
Not to mention the time the airplane is grounded. A little extra care when
refueling can prevent this from happening.
