[Pilots] November Stan/Eval newsletter

Hello MN Wing Pilots,



The weather has started out November feeling more like September. Hopefully
you are all able to take advantage of some nice late fall flying days.


All flying squadrons should have completed or scheduled the winter
operations briefing to be done before winter flying season gets underway.
This is a required item per our MN wing supplement to R70-1. If you are
unable to attend, you can view the presentation on the wing website, then
contact me for an additional step to get added to the winter flying mission.


As we have been flying more and getting more proficient and comfortable,
some complacency has started to creep in. Make sure you are following
checklists! I have been getting reports of pilots that are finding
airplanes with switches left on, fuel selector left in the “ both”
position, no tail flags, pitot covers, and trash left in the plane just to
name a few items. We must be professional and take care of our equipment.
Make sure you are doing post flight inspections to spot problems and get
them corrected by maintenance so the next crew doesn’t get cancelled.


A couple of items that you should see in the near future:


We will be conducting a refresher course on WMIRS entries to help avoid
some of the errors that are starting to show up on a regular basis


Operations officers – you will soon have a new monthly checklist to send
in. This should help in making sure our airplanes are fully equipped and
mission ready. It will be a short list to check loose item inventory,
database date, and checklists. This will help us keep a better picture of
how mission ready each airplane is. More information about this will follow
soon.
