Hello MN Wing Pilots,

I want to start out by thanking everyone for an outstanding operation for
FY 2023. We flew more hours than any year back thru at least 2014, over 800
orientation flights, and an excellent record of taking care of our planes.
Hopefully we can continue our momentum into FY 2024!

We have our first orientation flight push coming up during MEA weekend Oct
19-22 when most of our cadets will be out of school and available to fly.

To prepare us for the change to winter flying ( I know you don't want to
think of that yet, but it is coming!) all squadrons should complete the
required witner operations briefing by Nov 30 and forward the attendance
sheet to me or upload it into the winter flying mission in WMIRS.
Completing the briefing is required for any aircrew to be eligible to fly
the funded winter operations mission. The updated winter operations flight
briefing material can be found on the wing website under
Operations>Standardized procedures and training> Winter operations briefing
2024.

Another great training opportunity coming up is a FAA Wings seminar being
presented by our own Maj Jim Zurales. Here are the details:

  All MN Wing pilots (and anyone interested in aviation safety) are
cordially invited to participate in an aviation safety webinar conducted by
our own Wing Asst. Aerospace Education Officer and CFII Maj Jim Zurales at
0900 on Saturday 21 October.  Titled *"Learn From The Mistakes of Others,"* the
seminar will seek to increase your awareness of pilot errors that led to
accidents or incidents so that you might not make those same mistakes.

As I continue the initiative to make sure all of our pilot records are
accurate and up to date, I have found a couple of items that seem to be
trouble spots across many of our records. Both of these are required items
that have previously just been looked at by check pilots before doing form
5's but should be documented in your ops quals by uploading copies from
your logbook.
- If you have "orientation pilot" or "orientation pilot AFROTC"
qualifications you need to have a scan of a logbook page showing you have
200/300 hour of PIC time. Entered as follows:

- If you are qualified in the C182 you need to have a scan of your High
performance endorsement from your logbook uploaded into your ops quals.

Thank you for your help in making sure our records are accurate.

A couple of airport NOTAM reminders:
HCD airport will be closed from Oct 9 through Nov 17 for airport lighting
improvements
LVN airport will be closed at night on Oct 15 and 16 as well as from Oct 24
through Oct 26 for pipeline work.
