Hello MN Wing Pilots,

Christmas is just around the corner, and our present from NHQ will be arriving shortly. The two new C172 G1000 airplanes are almost ready to be picked up and head to Minnesota. To keep you up to date on the plan, we have four of our pilots from four different squadrons that will be taking commercial flights from MSP to Wichita Kansas this next Monday the 16th and will fly the airplanes back to MN on Tuesday the 17th (weather permitting, but it looks good now). Once they get to Minnesota, they will stop through maintenance to get their AIF books, loose items, and incoming inspection completed and will then be sent out to the squadrons to fly. I will try to get some pictures of the new planes out to you soon.
We will be losing one plane, N98175 which is currently in for its annual inspection, once that is completed it will be sent to Pipestone and from there transferred to SD wing. We also have N98424 with only about 20 hours left to fly before that plane will also be retired due to the engine reaching overhaul time, and CAP NHQ wanting to sell this airplane to make room for more new airplanes.
A couple of other items to point out to you. First is to use care when entering your sorties into WMIRS, we have had quite a few sorties added to NCR missions. Be careful to enter your sorties under the MN missions.
Secondly, remember to make sure your flights are released before entering the debrief information. When you do enter the debrief information make sure to complete all the items, especially the hobbs, tach, and ATD, ATA times.
We are in the process of setting up a task force to review the form 104’s for all funded flights to make sure all the briefing and debriefing items are completed. This was an item that was pointed out to us as deficient on our last CI inspection, so we want to make sure we are doing a better job completing our sorties in WMIRS
Lastly, I have received several complaints from people at the SGS airport about our airplanes doing run-ups in improper areas. Please do your run ups in the designated areas by the ends of the runways, and be careful which way you are pointed so you do not blow debris at other planes, hangars, buildings, or people.

Take Care, and Happy Holidays,
Capt. Greg Bestul
