<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><p class="MsoNormal">Hello MN wing pilots,<span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Here are the details on the new MN wing safety program that
I mentioned in a previous email.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In an effort to maintain the highest level of safety and
reduce the number of aircraft mishaps in our wing we will be completing the
following safety program. The difference between this program and the previous
safety down day type event is that this will be a task-based program. In this
program there are two tasks that need to be completed. <span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Task 1</b>: Each squadron that has a hanger for aircraft
must make sure that there are guide markings on the ground for each of the
three airplane tires to follow into the hanger. These lines should be painted
ideally, or for hangers that we are not able to paint, a durable tape striping
may be used. In addition, stop marks/blocks for C172 and C182 should be labeled
on the floor as well. Next we need to mark the hanger door opening to make sure
we know what height the door needs to be at so that the airplanes will fit thru
without contacting the door (this will only apply to hanger doors that open
upwards) Lastly if the hanger door has an internal support structure that makes
the door “thicker” than normal, the interior door limit should also be marked
on the floor.<span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Once all of the markings have been completed, take photos
of the markings and email them to Capt Greg Erickson at <a href="mailto:gerick001@comcast.net">gerick001@comcast.net</a><u> </u>He will approve or request further action
to bring the hanger up to standards. <span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If your squadron needs help with striping, our wing has a
striping machine that is currently held at the 130th squadron. You
can contact Lt Col Nick Modders at <a href="mailto:nickmodders1@gmail.com">nickmodders1@gmail.com</a>
or 612 281-3985 and he can help coordinate getting the machine to you and help
with using it.<span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:rgb(192,0,0)">This task must be completed by
August 31, 2022</span>. Any squadron/hangar that has not completed this task by
then will have their hangar marked as unusable and the aircraft will be removed
from it.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Task 2</b>: Each current pilot will need to view the
video on adapting threat and error management to general aviation. It was a
seminar put on at Oshkosh a couple of years ago, with a lot of good information.
Ideally it would be viewed at the squadron meeting in August, but if you are
not available during the meeting you can view it individually. It is part of
the FAA wings program so you can get wings credit for completing the program.

Courses, Seminars & Webinars - ALC_Content - FAA - FAASTeam - FAASafety.gov</a><span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It's about a 50 minute presentation, and afterwards you can
conduct a discussion on what types of threats we experience at CAP during our
flights. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I would also recommend that a brief discussion on threats
can be added to the before starting checklist briefing section and/or the pre
takeoff briefing. </p><p class="MsoNormal">Things like:<span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“I haven’t flown in a while”<span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“There are a lot of birds/planes out today we need to keep a
sharp eye out for them”<span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Im not very familiar with this airport/GPS/radio”<span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">“Lets keep monitoring the winds/ceiling/thunderstorms”<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal">or any other threats that either pilot sees as a risk </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Since many times we are flying with a crew of two pilots it
helps to make the other crewmember aware of possible risks. This is a procedure
we have been using in the airlines for several years now and it has been a great
tool in spotting and avoiding potential threats.<span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:rgb(192,0,0)">This task should be completed by August 31, 2022</span>. To
complete the task you will need to email me with your name and CAP id number at
<u><a href="mailto:gbestul@gmail.com">gbestul@gmail.com</a></u> .If you view the presentation at the squadron meeting
your operations officer can send me a roster sheet of everyone that attended,
otherwise if you watch it individually you can send me your name and CAP number
and I will check off the names from the active pilots list that I have. I will
contact any pilot that has not completed the task by August 31 to make sure
they complete this task.<span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span> </span></p>
