<p class="MsoNormal">It has taken a while this year, but it seems that winter has
finally arrived. Flying gets more difficult due to weather and conditions, and
we have to practice the winter operations procedures we reviewed in our winter
ops briefing.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">A reminder to plug in ALL the airplanes, even if they are in
a heated hangar. The time and fuel it takes to get an aircraft warmed up into
the green range for takeoff can be lengthy and expensive if the engine is
starting at 50F or below. Plus we know that by keeping the planes plugged in it
helps eliminate moisture in the engine. <span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Flight instructors – you should have seen the new
requirement from CAP NHQ that to enable you to maintain your CAP instructor
status you must now stay current with TSA security training. Any instructor
that has not completed a TSA security course, entered it into ops quals along
with an uploaded supporting document will have their CAP instructor qualifications
drop off after April 1^st of this year. <span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">There are several sites that offer the course (AOPA, King,
or FAA’s FAAST websites)<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Winter is a good time to make sure all your operations
qualifications are in order. Check to see if you have your current medical,
flight review, front and back side of your licenses uploaded into your ops
quals. Also, extra one-time uploads like scans of logbook pages showing you
have 200/300 hours of PIC time for orientation pilot, or high performance
endorsement for C182 qualification. Having these in order helps out immensely
when it comes to inspection time!!<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Another winter project will be a WMIRS review program that
should be completed by each squadron. We are going to try and reduce the number
of computer errors that have been adversely affecting our planes and flight
operations.  I will have the program put
together by the end of this month and sent out to each squadron's Stan/eval and
operations officers.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">We continue to be doing an excellent job with the flying
when the weather has cooperated. For the first quarter of the fiscal year (Oct
– Dec) we did 155 powered orientation flights compared to 61 in 2022, and our
total flight time was also up: 858 hours vs 460 last year. So keep up the good
work.<span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>
