Goodwill to All: The Core of Civil Air Patrol’s Mission

By: Lt. Col. Todd Meyer, National Safety Team, WI-169

As the year draws to a close, the message of "Goodwill to All" resonates
deeply with us in Civil Air Patrol. This timeless call for kindness,
service, and compassion aligns perfectly with our core values: Integrity,
Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect. It’s a reminder that, beyond
our training and missions, the heart of our work is the goodwill we extend
to our communities, fellow members, and those in need.

In the realm of Safety, goodwill means looking out for one another and
ensuring that each member is prepared, equipped, and supported. A culture
of safety starts with caring for the person standing next to us. When we
speak up about a potential hazard or help a teammate who seems fatigued, we
embody the spirit of goodwill—protecting one another as we would our own
families.

The Health Services team knows well that promoting physical and mental
well-being is an act of goodwill. Whether offering health checks at
meetings or providing resources for stress management, these efforts go
beyond duty. It’s about showing compassion and prioritizing the wellness of
our members so we can continue our mission safely and effectively.

For the Chaplain Corps, “Goodwill to All” is the very essence of their
service. Our chaplains and Character Development Instructors remind us
that, regardless of background or belief, we are all worthy of respect,
care, and dignity. They help foster a culture where everyone feels valued,
creating a positive and inclusive environment.

This season, let us be a beacon of goodwill, bringing hope and kindness to
those around us. Together, we can make a meaningful impact, not only
through our missions but also through the simple acts of kindness and
support we show to one another.
