Description
===========
This list is for discussion of issues related to CAP Communications. It was formed to give people a place to discuss any of the incarnations of radio communications, including voice, packet, SSTV, APRS, and anything else even remotely related to communications as it pertains (or might pertain) to CAP. This list is open to anyone as long as you are willing to take a courteous approach to our conversations.
Appropriate subject matter for "Unit-DC" includes the wide range of topics involving communications, and may diverge into other means of communications than radio, e.g., mirrors, smoke signals, internet, telephony, cable modems, etc.
This is a list in which the discussion may wander a bit. It is not unusual to find discussions about history, philosophy, technology, and other matters directly or indirectly related to Communications. If the discussion begins in "Communications", and touches back periodically, it is probably OK. If you think a particular topic has deviated too far, too long, advise the list owner in private mail.
Policies
========
The number one rule of this email list is "Be Polite!" There is no excuse for insults, name calling, and other types of "flames." If we disagree with someone, we discuss those disagreements in a COURTEOUS manner.
Unless otherwise stated, ALL POSTS ARE THE PERSONAL OPINION OF THE ORIGINATOR.
The list owner reserves the right to make rulings about topics, threads and general appropriateness of message subject matter. By posting in this list you agree to comply with the rules of the list, and with rulings of the list owner.
Leave the moderation of the list to the list owner. If you think a conversation should be terminated, advise the list owner in private.
"Unit-DC" is set so that messages from addresses that are not subscribed will be bounced to the Owner for review.
Bounced Messages
===============
There are a few reasons your messages might be "bounced" and not be distributed to the list. The Listserv will not transmit a message in excess of 40k. For this reason, UUENCODED files are inappropriate and lengthy quotes are discouraged. If you do decide to send a very long post, you may need to break it into two parts. Even better, post it on a WWW site and use a message to the list to inform readers where your file may be found.
The listserv will also bounce a message addressed to more than ten total addresses. Occasionally messages come along to which Unit-DC is only one of a gazillion addressees. Since Unit-DC already goes to a lengthy list of subscribers, it is generally not appropriate to include it with a long list of other addressees.
Please consider carefully before you send a message or a reply to more than one mailing list. Many people who subscribe to multiple lists find this objectionable. Send your message to the one most relevant list, please.
