Hello MN Wing pilots,
The summer is nearing an end, our cadets will be heading back to school in
the next few weeks. This is a good time to try and squeeze in some end of
summer orientation flights. We know it gets much harder to schedule flights
once the cadets are back in school. We have the second round of the
orientation flight bonanza coming up on Aug 19, but we have lots of other
days also available to schedule O flights.
Now that we have corrected our procedure for entering "no fuel" sorties in
WMIRS our funding for orientation flights is good.
We have just over a month until our funded missions will be closing for the
fiscal year, make sure to keep an eye on the end dates when you are
scheduling your September flying.
Funding for our Form 5/91 and flight clinic missions are both now under
$350, so if you are planning on using one of these missions better to do so
soon.
Funding for our A12 proficiency mission is still good (over $3000) so use
this mission when you are able too. We want to show the air force we need,
and will use proficiency mission funding.
A new program that started this year (FY23) is a joint cooperation program
between CAP and the Air Force to better monitor operations. This program
called OPS EVAL is a process where CAP-USAF observers ride along on CAP
flights to evaluate how we are doing, and if any changes need to be made.
Since there are lots of CAP wings and only limited observers the program is
set up to have Emphasis wings and non emphasis wings. For FY23 MN wing was
a non emphasis wing, which means the observers would only join us on a
couple of flights. For next year FY24, starting in October of this year, we
will become one of the emphasis wings. The observers will try to ride along
on 15 sorties to collect data from. With larger wings like ours we may see
some of the observers being CAP members from other wings. I have attached
the OPS EVAL memorandum that was sent out earlier this month detailing the
upcoming years program.
We will have more details on the program as we get closer to the beginning
of the new fiscal year.
We have a couple of new instructors joining us this last month
Capt Sean McClain 17th squadron
SM Dan Malneritch 122nd squadron
One new check pilot also this last month
Scott Ikeda 17th squadron
Thank you for stepping up to help us out.
I have also attached this month's edition of the NHQ stan/eval newsletter.
