Hello MN wing pilots,

The good flying weather we have been hoping for all winter has arrived!

It's good to see that many of our pilots are taking advantage of the good
weather. Our number of proficiency flights are almost double what we did
all of last year, and our flight hours are up more that 200 hours over last
year at this time. Keep up the good work! For those that haven't taken
advantage of this quarter's funded proficiency flight, there are only a
couple weeks left.

We also had a record setting day for orientation flights, with the BIG wing
wide orientation flight day we had in May. Over 70 flights in one day!
Thank you to everyone that participated in this great event. With such a
great response we will definitely want to do this type of event again soon.

We have had a good turnout for this year's flight clinic. There have been
13 squadrons holding the ground briefing section of the clinic. We hope to
see some improvement on how we are filling out WMIRS entries for our
missions now that we have had a review of what is needed. For the rest of
the fiscal year we can take advantage of the flight portion of the flight
clinic and work on some of the "rusty" areas to get prepared for our next
form 5 checkride.

A couple of items to watch for as you're getting ready to fly. Remember to
check the inspection records on the front of the white book closely, we are
transitioning to a new oil change date that will now be date specific
instead of at the end of the month. Also make sure that when you are
looking over the book that the fire extinguisher inspection has been signed
off for the current month.

Its also good to see that even with more flying this year we have not had
any "hangar rash" issues that plagued us last year. Our additional
training, better proficiency and attention to detail is paying off! This
keeps our planes available to fly, not in the shop. We want to keep this
trend continuing!!

Our glider operation is in full swing. If you know of cadets that would
like the opportunity to get a flight in the glider, make sure to work on
getting them on the schedule, as the glider will only be in MN until the
end of July.

We have one more new instructor in May
SM Kurt Weimer MN30
and one new check pilot
Maj David Carlstrom MN104
Thank you for stepping up to help out our pilot group.

I have attached this month's issue of the NHQ stan/eval newsletter

Take Care and fly safe,
