Hello MN Wing pilots,
Wanted to bring you up to date on a couple of mission related items.
First, the winter operations mission has used up all funding and will not
be able to be replenished for this year. I appreciate the great interest
and participation in this mission. For next year we will work on increasing
the funding for this mission to prevent it from running out of funding
before the end date of the mission. Maybe next year we will have a “real”
winter with snow and everything!
Second, we have just recently opened the Glass cockpit training mission
24-T-4466. This is for initial training and familiarization with advanced
avionics, including the G1000, GTN650 and GTN400.
Another funded flying mission is 24-T-3349 the unit-based ES exercise, so
if you come up with an ES scenario and get it approved through Chief Vance
you could use this mission for some funded flying.
The last funded mission I wanted to bring up is the quarterly A12
proficiency mission. With all the low clouds and fog, we have had very few
sorties flown on this mission this quarter.
I would like to make a suggestion for the use of the proficiency mission
this quarter, if possible, use this quarter’s proficiency mission to do a
night flight and get current flying at night. This seems to be when a lot
of actual missions come about, so it would be great if we had current
pilots for night flying. Another item to add to the sortie, especially for
those squadrons that don’t operate out of a tower controlled airport, is to
fly to and from a tower controlled airport, and get flight following from
ATC to keep sharp of your ATC communication procedures.
Lastly a few guidelines on entering sorties for funded missions in WMIRS.
To prevent the unnecessary blocking of funding, especially as a mission
nears its completion. We have come up with the following scheduling
guidelines:
1. Flights can be scheduled on the wing website at any time, however a
sortie for a funded mission should not be entered into WMIRS more than 5
days in advance of the flight.
2. Once a sortie has been entered into WMIRS the date can only be
changed due to weather or mechanical cancellations. Any other change to
date must be approved by the wing DO or DOV.
3. If a sortie cannot be flown for any reason, it should be cancelled.
A new sortie can be entered with a new date if funding remains.
This should make us most efficient with the use of our funded missions.
Take Care,and fly safe,
