[Pilots] Loose Equipment

I'm sending this to all MN Wing pilots in hopes of raising awareness of an
issue that has seemingly gotten worse. The loss or misplacement of MN
Wing-owned loose equipment in our fleet. As our airplanes come through
maintenance during the summer months I conduct an annual Form 71 inspection
of logbooks and the airplane, review the AIF for complete and correct
forms, and conduct an inventory of the loose equipment. In the last month
I've encountered missing tire gauges, missing towbars, wrong towbars,
missing fuel sump containers, missing fuel tank dip tubes, etc. Sometimes
we find an item in another plane and sometimes in a hangar.

MN Wing recently purchased a number of these items as replacements. We're
starting the process of updating and replacing these items now. These items
are purchased as a MN Wing expense. No national money is available for
this. Our last partial order was over $1,200. OK, I'll quit whining about
the money.

Incidentally the PIC is responsible for the loose equipment on board. And
the loose equipment form on the back of the AIF should be filled out with
current items. Please update your form as you conduct the inventory I'm
asking you to do below.

In order to get a somewhat accurate count of the missing items, I'm
attaching a loose equipment form for someone (DO?) in your squadron to fill
out and return to me. You can scan and email back, or take a picture of the
completed form and send it to me via text or email. I will appreciate it
very much if this can be done within the next 2 weeks - *DUE MAY 26.*
