*MN Wing Aircraft Maintenance Report*
*May 6, 2024*

*1. Open Discrepancies:* We currently have 20 discrepancies in AMRAD for
our fleet. Seven of which are for the installation of Bradley VIRB mounts
(for cameras). The first one of the mounts is being done today on N837CP.
The others will be installed as they come through for regular maintenance.
Two of the discrepancies are for prop overhauls and the rest are for
routine oil changes, annual inspections and minor repairs.

*2. N439CP engine overhaul:* N439CP will be out of the shop and back on
the line this week. In addition to the engine overhaul, the prop was
overhauled and an annual inspection has been done. FYI - engine, prop and
prop governors are scheduled for overhaul every 2,000 hours and magnetos
every 500 hours.

*3. What can happen if you land hard on the nose landing gear?* They say a
picture is worth a thousand words, so.....

Found this damage when we took apart the nose landing gear strut to reseal
it. The cause is directly related to hard landing on nose gear. And YES,
it's expensive!

*4. MN CAP receives a C172P from Kansas Wing:* N98175 is now CAP2167
assigned to MN Wing. North Central Region monitors flying hours and total
time on airplanes and periodically moves assets around to get the best
utilization. This brings our fleet to 17 airplanes. By contrast, the Kansas
Wing has a total of 5 airplanes. MN Wing pilots need to realize this and be
appreciative of the fact that we have active pilots who fly enough hours to
keep this fleet at this size. We are going over logbooks, AMRAD and AIF to
make sure everything on N98175 is up to date. We will need to add a few
items of loose equipment to the plane to match it with the others.

*5. When did you last complete a weight and balance for your flight?* An
incorrect weight and balance was recently discovered on one of our planes
by a very conscientious pilot. This error had been in place for years and
was never caught before. It begs the question of how often are pilots
actually completing a W/B?

*6. GPS nav databases not up to date:* We still have an incomplete system
of getting the nav databases updated on time in our fleet. Every flying
squadron should have at least one person trained on the updating process
for the plane in their hangar. Training information is available to learn
the 4 different GPS models in our planes plus we have trainers who can
help. The Air Force has on several occasions pointed out databases that
were out of date when they went to fly. The Air Force pays for the
subscriptions to keep these up to date. It's our duty to use our resources
wisely, plus it's a pilot's responsibility to have all possible current
information for their flight. Contact me if you need more information.

*7. Change of seasons, changing out winter kits:* As airplanes are coming
through maintenance we're now taking the winter kits out. They are stored
for the summer at Wing HQ in bins.

*8. Maintaining correct NP and EP checklists:* When coming through
maintenance we always verify that the normal and emergency checklists are
up to date. We do find some to be out of date. You can verify these by
going to ORMS and "search checklist". NHQ recently updated the normal
checklist for all C172P and N models.

*9. Some delays in getting NHQ approval:* NHQ has hired several new staff
in the Logistics/Aircraft Maintenance area. This has led to some new
processes to follow, including getting approval on work in excess of $750.
We're experiencing some delays beyond what we were used to but we hope this
will work itself out in the near future.

As always, if you have any questions or comments about aircraft
maintenance, please let me know. Text or email preferred.
